Margaret (Meg) Goodwin

MD, FAAP

Born in Greenville, South Carolina, and raised in New Jersey, Dr. Goodwin has always felt drawn to this region of the country. She moved back to the upstate to earn a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a Minor in Women’s and Gender Studies at Furman University in 2006. In 2010 she received her Medical Degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine and completed her pediatric residency at Duke University Medical Center in 2013.

Shortly after, Dr. Goodwin earned her American Board of Pediatrics board certification and joined Mountain Area Pediatrics. In doing so, she considers herself very fortunate to have set her roots here in Asheville. She holds being a mother and her job as a pediatrician as labors of love, where she has the responsibility and blessing of continual learning. She has also served as an Adjunct Associate Professor with University of North Carolina School of Medicine since 2014.  Her clinical interests include newborn care with attention to maternal well-being and early childhood development, and breastfeeding with challenges such as craniofacial anomalies, including cleft lip/palate.

In her free time, Dr. Goodwin loves exploring our beautiful parks and trails, camping, hiking and backpacking with her husband and baby girl. She also enjoys the local arts and live music scene in which we are so lucky to be immersed.
